Wedding roles: best man, groomsman

Wedding Groomsman and his friends

The set of people who have a role in the ceremony.
In this article we will talk about groomsman and  the best man.

Groomsmen

The groom is supported by assistants called groomsmen during the ceremony.
They are usually the male relatives or close friends of the groom or future brothers-in-law and it is considered an honor to be selected for this role.

There are no rules as to how many are to be named.

It is usually required that there be one for every 50 guests, One of their duties is to assist the guests by helping them to their seats during the ceremony, distribute the ceremony programs to them and escort the bridesmaids.

The best man

The groom usually chooses one as the best man, or as “the best men”, who will act as best man and will hold the rings. But his duties do not end there.
“The best man” is the groom’s main assistant at a wedding and together with the bridesmaid is the third most important wedding party figure after the bride and groom.

During the ceremony “the best men” stands next to the groom, slightly behind him.
Usually the groom asks his brother, best friend or father to be his best man.
He can be single or married.

Although “the best man” has fewer duties than the maid of honor, she must perform equally important tasks both before and during the wedding.

For example, he must be ready to support and advise the groom as well as to fulfill last-minute or offer assistance to anyone who needs it.

He also helps the groom to be responsible for the other assistants and be the keeper of the wedding rings until the moment of the ceremony.

Finally, he acts as a legal witness of the marriage by signing the marriage certificate and prepares the speech for the usual welcome toast at the reception.

“The best man” has to help make the wedding enjoyable for the guests by talking to lonely people or dancing with unaccompanied guests or bridesmaids and also provides hands-on assistance with gifts and guest luggage.

Before the wedding day, “the best man” organizes the Bachelor party and keeping an eye on any potential incidents even at the rehearsal dinner and reception.

In the event that the wedding does not have a wedding planner, “the best man” must be prepared to face the unexpected and do everything possible to avoid embarrassing moments for the couple during the ceremony or wedding reception.

Groomsman VS Best man

Groomsman and Best man take part in most related events.

Groomsmen typically have a much closer relationship with the couple, who usually don’t even attend pre-wedding events (like the bachelor party) and may dress slightly differently than the groom.
